Имя фигуриста Джонни Вейра присвоено малой планете(астероиду) при содействии интернет-сообщества поклонников накануне дня рождения спортсмена 2 июля. Астроном Тимур Крячко, один из участников фан-клуба weir.ru, открывший астероид в 1995 г, предложил назвать его в честь спортсмена и представил запрос в Minor Planet Сenter USA. На сегодняшний день Джонни Вейр является единственным фигуристом-одиночником, в честь которого названа малая планета.


Официальное свидетельство о присвоении имени малой планете подписано академиком, нобелевским лауреатом Жоресом Алферовым и директром Института Прикладной Астрономии РАН Андреем Финкельштейном, где оно и было выдано. Ознакомиться с подробными характеристиками планеты Johnnyweir можно в каталоге NASA.

What about Dancing With the Stars? You’ve been vocal about wanting to do the show. Is that a possibility?

"We’re definitely talking to all the right people about 'Dancing With the Stars'. They are definitely talking back to us, so it’s just going to be a matter of time. Really, when it comes down to it, if you’ve chosen a whole cast of people, and the last spot is open [and] you’ve got Johnny Weir…That’s all good, but that will be easily trumped by somebody else who would be more outrageous on the show. Like if it was between me and Lindsay Lohan for the last spot. Obviously you want to see Lindsay Lohan dancing in that ankle bracelet. I definitely would love to dance. I’ve already chosen Karina Smirnoff as who I would like to dance with. I got to meet her, and I checked my size next to her. I love her, and I love the show. I think I’d be great. A lot of people expect me to have really good rhythm when I’m not on ice, but it’s quite the opposite. It would be a situation where I really would have to learn to dance. I’ve never taken dance classes or anything. I would be a fish out of water, for sure. I think that would be interesting."

Fellow ice skater, Evan Lysacek, did pretty well on DWTS. Is that an added incentive to be on the show and perform well?

"Absolutely. I don’t take on a project unless I know the end result is going to make me happy. If I can’t give 100 percent to something, I choose not to do it because it’s very difficult to have so many pots on the fire at one time. If I wanted to do Dancing With the Stars I would fight and fight to get on the show, which we are. Once I’m there, I’m not going for any other place aside from first. I think it would be great if I won and Evan wasn’t able to win this season. I think it would be funny."



ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You’re known for some outrageous fashion choices. How would you describe your style?
JOHNNY WEIR: "I’d say in general, my style is Johnny Weir style. It’s my style. I can’t classify it as anything else. I’m very conscious of my body, and the way I’m built. I have really big thighs, but I’m tiny up top. And I have a little head, so I can’t really wear things that are huge up there. I have a very clear idea of my body and what style would work on me. And I love playing. I think I’m a student of both schools. The Coco Chanel philosophy of take one thing off before you leave the house, but also the school of enough is never enough. So I try to play in between those worlds."

What about on the ice?
"Something that very many people forget is that when we’re on the ice, we’re not wearing clothes. We’re wearing costumes. And you wouldn’t go to see Moulin Rouge! without the costumes. Figure skating is theatrical, and a part of it is wearing costumes. My costumes were very over-the-top and outrageous for figure skating. But for me, it’s all beautiful. Even when nobody else believed they were beautiful, I felt beautiful in them. I think that’s the most important thing to be learned about fashion. It doesn’t matter necessarily what you put on your body. It’s how you feel with what you’re wearing. And I always felt good. I’ll look back sometimes maybe five days after an event, and I’ll look at a picture and say :”What was I thinking with those pants, or that top or that makeup?” I’m very critical of myself. But in general, when I get dressed, in that moment, it’s a look I want. It’s a feeling I want. I feel beautiful. I feel great."

How involved are you in making your costumes?
"I’m involved in everything except the actual construction, the sewing and things. I can’t sew very well. It’s improving slowly, but I can’t sew very well. I design everything. I help chose the fabrics and the theme. The costumes always are a reflection of the music or the character that you’re performing with. I’m just in the final stages of creating a new costume for my Lady Gaga Poker Face costume. Lots of people have seen it. It’s like my No. 1 video on YouTube. More people have seen it than anything else I’ve ever done. I think that’s great. I wanted to change it up and do a new costume. We’re actually finishing that up. It’s really wonderful. My old costume was black with broken shards of glass and disco balls down one arm. This one I wanted to be very sleek. It’s basically a black lace catsuit. There are certain cutouts in very strategic places to make me look thin. And there are giant things on the shoulders. My inspiration was film when you pull it out of a camera, and old-fashioned camera."

How did you get involved with Closet Confessions?
"After the Olympics, my personal style was definitely on a lot of people’s radars. And BlueFly is made up of people. They were interested in seeing what I was doing next, and interested in seeing my closet and my philosophies on fashion. They called my agent and said, “We think Johnny would be perfect for Closet Confessions.” Of course, we didn’t know what that meant. We thought it might be a trap in some way, but we researched it and Nicky Hilton did it and Christian Siriano. I think it is definitely very good company to be in. So I said yes. I got my closet ready and they came over and shot it."

What can viewers expect to see in your closet?
"There’s a lot in my closet. I’ve been collecting things since I was five. I’m definitely a pack rat. I’m not a hoarder, but I’m definitely a pack rat. I will keep anything if I have a memory in it or a good moment. I’m only 25, but 20 years of stuff is a lot of stuff as far as fashion is concerned. I love vintage Chanel jackets. I love Chanel. I love Balenciaga bags. I love sunglasses. I have over 120 pairs of sunglasses. I love fur. I just collect things. Even if I don’t wear something, I collect it. Usually the test for me is if I would want to frame it someday."

The first season of your Sundance Channel show Be Good Johnny Weir just ended. What new things are you planning?
"There’s definitely a lot of new opportunities coming my way that I never expected. Like I recorded a song. We’re going to put that up at the end of July. A lot of people who have heard it say it sounds a lot like Depeche Mode. I haven’t been a big fan of Depeche Mode, so I’m not so familiar with their music. For me, it sounds like a mixture of Lady Gaga and the Scissor Sisters, which is sort of a dance/pop sort of situation. Which is the easiest way to sing, I believe. I’m really proud of what I did with that. The song is called Dirty Love. I’m also writing a book, and yes, we are definitely in talks about season two of Be Good Johnny Weir. I’m not sure if I’ll keep competing this season. I still have some time to decide, but I’m still on the fence about if I want to take one year off because the Olympic season was so draining and so tough. I might need to take a year off to relax and enjoy my life a bit before I start skating again. Or if life happens. You never know. I could end up a trophy wife next week. You just never know."

Q&A: Johnny Weir on His Fabulous Clothing Collection, Fur, and Upcoming Clothing Line


Figure skater Johnny Weir let Bluefly video cameras into his closet so that the nation might ogle his vast clothing collection, which contains much more than controversial fur-accented unitards. Weir has a two-bedroom apartment in New Jersey, one bedroom of which he uses just for clothes — in addition to his two walk-in closets. "I live in New Jersey, and that affords me a lot more closet space than the average New Yorker gets," Weir explained. "And believe me, I need it!" We spoke to him more about his Chanel jacket obsession, fur pillows, Louboutins as art pieces, and his upcoming clothing line.

What is your advice on closet cleaning?
I don’t get rid of anything — I’m such a pack rat. There could be something that I got ten years ago that I wouldn’t get rid of. I have a vintage Chanel jacket that I don’t actually fit into — a very classic Chanel tweed jacket. I just have it as a sort of art installment. And someday I’m going to have a kid, so whether it’s a boy or girl they’re going to inherit a really great wardrobe.


Do you wear women's clothing?
I’m lucky because I’m really small so I can wear men's clothes and women’s clothes.

Do you wear women's shoes, too?
Usually I try not to buy women’s shoes — I have no heels in my collection. I want to buy a pair of Louboutin patent-leather heels just to fit in the apartment as an art installation. I have a pair of Chanel women's boat shoes and a pair of women’s sneakers from Gucci. And I have a small foot.

How do you feel about man heels?
I don’t like the idea of that look — I think it’s not quite right. But there are those situations where you’re performing or doing a shoot where, you know, there’s nothing wrong with a little heel. I think more men should walk in heels and run in heels and see what women have to deal with every day.

How often do you shop?
It depends on the paychecks. It depends if I’m having a good month or a bad month, but if it’s a good month I’ll go and treat myself once or twice a week. I recently got a deal to write a book and I had to treat myself and I went and bought myself a Chanel jacket — a new one, a modern one from one of the recent collections.

What are your tips for closet organization?
I know exactly everything that I have. Whether it’s a tank top or fur coat, I’ll be able to pinpoint exactly where it goes in the house. I have special bins for things I don’t actually wear because I don’t actually need them. And I keep everything color coded, so I have a very strict system of closeting.

You encountered a spot of trouble earlier this year for wearing a bit of fur on one of your skating outfits. Do you own a lot of fur?
I do have a lot of fur. I’m a big fan of fur. I’m not a fan of nutria or fake fur and I’ve taken a lot of flack for that, but it’s just a choice that I make. I travel a lot to Russia and it’s usually in winter when I’m in Russia, so you can’t walk around in a plastic coat and plastic boots when it's minus 40 degrees. I’m from the country, I’ve gone hunting, so I know what happens. I know everything there is to know about the fur industry and I choose to wear fur.

How do you store your furs?
I have one closet that’s special and air conditioned just for fur, but it’s all fur coats and scarves and blankets and pillows and things like that.

You have real fur pillows?
I like to have a furry bed. I like to get cozy even in the summertime. The air conditioning gets cold and I like to snuggle.

How's the clothing line coming along?
We’re meeting with several different producers and people that are willing to help and want to help and are very passionate about me sort of putting my name on some fashions. I’ve been so busy, and it seems like it’s been a long time since the Olympics, but it really hasn’t and I haven’t stopped doing appearances and performing. And I'm writing my single and trying to write my book. And I found a little bit of cellulite yesterday so I’ve been in the gym every day.

What kind of price point are you aiming for?
I want Chanel quality, of course — a different price point, but of course Chanel quality. If I’m going to put my name on it, it’s gotta be good enough for Uncle Karl. Price point? I’m thinking along the lines of All Saints or Topshop — I wouldn’t go crazy and put my name on a heel for $700. I’m not a tried-and-true designer just yet. Maybe when I’m 50 or 70 I can put my name on a shoe for $700.

A: i rarely reveal it, but i feel like i can tell you, my middle name is Garvin. I hate it!

A: i got my gloves at Patricia Fields shop in NYC. it's in the bowery and called House of Venus

A: I reccomend MAC's mascara, Dior Show and the new Givenchy mascara. the applicator is a ball!

A: I love England. I can't wait to come back. I tell everyone to learn english from a british person

A: stephane doesn't want to skate with me. we both like to be the "flower" in the pair. he refuses

Johnny Weir looks back at the Olympics: Fortius Altius Maximus

In the upcoming season finale of BE GOOD JOHNNY WEIR tonight, my fans and fans of my show will travel with me to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. There is a lot of detail shown in the finale, but I thought I’d dish a little dirt about the Olympics, and this has nothing to do with the fact that condoms were officially supplied in the Olympic Village.

The Olympics are massive. You can’t really appreciate the magnitude of the games simply by watching them on TV. You arrive in the airport and are immediately directed to a line to receive your accreditation, which is your key to the Olympics as an official entry. The accreditation gains you access to all venues, housing establishments, and in many cases free taxis and constant gawking as to who you may be when you’re out and about. I arrived earlier than expected to the Olympics because of a blizzard on the east coast, and they didn’t want me to be late.

After arriving and going through the team processing, which is when you get all the swag, most of which is not even your size, you get shipped by bus into the Olympic village which is sort of like an international army base. It’s incredible the amount of people running through the village, all in tracksuits and me and Galina strolling in, in knee length mink coats with far too much luggage. There is no admittance into the village unless you invite a family member or lover and they are approved 24 hours prior to their visit, which is why you never see live shots inside the village on TV.

The food in the village is strange. It is all served in a giant cafeteria with McDonalds, cookies and pizza abounding. It isn’t strange because it’s fast food, it’s strange because these are the World’s most elite athletes, more esteemed than NFL heroes and Mike Tyson, and they eat McDonalds? Apparently all sports aside from figure skating do eat these foods, needless to say, Galina and I found our way to the Four Season’s hotel in Vancouver and ate every single day, at YEW restaurant. The staff became family and even treated me to a giant ice cream sundae after the events were over, so a big public thank you to YEW.

The practices and constant media scrutiny before your event are difficult things to tackle. I train in relative obscurity at a small rink in Wayne, New Jersey with two other skaters, Ksenia Makarova, Russian ladies champion, and Natalia Popova, Ukrainian ladies champion, so showing up and being “on stage,” practicing with your key rivals for many days before you actually compete is draining. On the last day before my short program the US men were scheduled for two practices and of the three men, I was the only one who would take advantage of the evening practice. At the Olympics, the US figure skating team is overseen by five main officials, a team leader, two assistant team leaders, a doctor and physiotherapist who are supposed to share responsibilities and at least one is to be present for every practice, event, press conference, drug test and so on for every single athlete. As a precursor to my event and the support I could expect to receive from my own team, not one team official showed up to my final official practice that night. Not one.

I think most people know how the competition went for me. I felt so alive and amazing on the ice. I did the two best performances of my life, and I still failed to medal. I still haven’t quite come to terms as to why I lost to people who fell, but I am so beyond proud of what I did and proud of my fans for helping me get through the event and fighting with me every step of the way. It is hard to explain the emotions that poured out of me on that final night n Vancouver, I gave my life on that ice, and there’s nothing to be ashamed of, or rethink. In my heart, I am a champion for everything I was able to accomplish.

When I finished skating, and saw the scores, and heard the audience booing at the judges, I immediately swept into the mixed zone where you do all your interviews, switching from English, to Russian to French, back to Russian and then English again. I was completely overwhelmed by everything and so wasn’t able to process what happened. Galina walked me back to the curtain we were hiding behind near a janitor’s closet before the event, sat down with me and I started crying and didn’t stop. When the competition was over and I finished my first crying fit of the Games, I had a drug test with the medalists from my event, then went home to my room in the village. My roommate Tanith hugged me and told me how proud she was of me, I turned off my phones, got in the shower and cried for what felt like hours. I was emotionally spent. The next morning, and until I left Vancouver, I was up by five and doing media, interviews and commentary until midnight every night. It was insanity. During all the craziness, I was also finding time to train with Galina and Viktor and start preparations for the World Championships, which were only a few weeks away. I also said goodbye to my family who had traveled so far to watch me perform, and stood with Ksenia as she skated in her first Olympics. All in all, you can say I was one of the busiest people of the Games.

While this blog sounds a bit “woe to me,” I enjoyed nearly every second of my second Olympic Games. I did my job to the best of my abilities. I really loved what I was doing, I was connected with the people in my circle who matter most, and as a team, we accomplished something great. Galina said it best, once the Games were over, “we all acted together, like one.” When Galina and I parted ways after my event she leaned over and hugged me and said, “Johnnyka, you have made me prouder then anyone has ever made me before. I feel that you are champion; God blessed us today. You’re victory is my victory, we came a long way together, I am so proud of you.” That statement, coming from Galina Yakovlevna Zmievskaya, is worth it’s weight in gold to me. The day before the closing ceremonies, I left Vancouver with the feeling that I really accomplished something that will be of value to me, for the rest of my life and I can still cry thinking how proud I made myself, and my family, fans and team.

I know this was a long one, and too emotional, but I want you all to know how much I appreciate your love and support from long before and long after the Olympics. You mean the world to me and I work very day to make you proud. I love you.

What a busy spring I have had! I’ve been running from award shows and recording sessions to book meetings and skating practice. Life hasn’t slowed down for me one bit since the Olympic Games. Dying to see me in action? Well, tune in on June 27 at 10PM for the season finale of my reality series BE GOOD JOHNNY WEIR right here on Sundance Channel (shameless plug, couldn’t resist).

Since I’ve been spending so much time on the road and doing fabulous things I figured I’d list some of the things I’m looking forward to the most just to give my amazing fans an inside look into what is coming up.

1. This past weekend I performed in Columbus, Ohio as a part of the skating exhibition, “Skate for Hope.” Skate for Hope has been around for a while now, and all the proceeds from the show go towards breast cancer research and to breast cancer related charities. I performed my new program ‘Heartbroken’ set to music by Richard Clayderman, and ‘Bad Romance’ by Lady Gaga which is quickly becoming a favorite. It was great being in front of a loving audience and hope everyone that was there flew around the ice with me.

2. On June 27 and 28 I will be in Detroit, Michigan to be part of a fashion show on ice for the bridal boutique, “Creme de la Creme.” I am going to be prancing around in some pretty extravagant costumes and at the end of the show, I’ll be performing my fan favorite exhibition routine to “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga in a new costume. I’m very excited to debut the new costume! Be sure to check it out if you are in Michigan!

3. On July 2 I will be turning 25, for the second time. I’ve decided now when I gain a new year under my belt, I will go backwards instead of forwards. By the time I have to walk around with a Swarovski encrusted walker, I figure I’ll be the ripe old age of -5. Love that! I’m hoping to put together a really great day, and relax and get pampered and then hopefully do something amazing with my friends in the night.

There is a lot more coming up that will be in my next blog post right here on SUNfiltered. I’ve been hard at work with my producer Lucian Piane on our single “Dirty Love,” and we’re looking for a late summer release date and video shoot. I’ve been really delving into my life while I’m writing my 25 year memoir for Gallery Books, and in general trying to make my fans proud in every possible way.
